Changes to Winter Fuel Allowance for Pensioners

After some intensive lobbying, the Government have reversed their decision not to pay the winter fuel allowance this coming winter.

The allowance will now be paid to all eligible individuals unless an opt out is completed by 15 September 2025.

The payment of the allowance will now be subject to means testing and individuals with income over £35,000 will no longer be entitled to the allowance.

If you are not entitled to the allowance then this will be recovered either by a restriction to your PAYE code number or by repayment via your Self-Assessment Tax Return.
