About us
The history of Wettone Matthews can be traced back some 50 years to an Accountant who practiced from an office in Market Street. This firm was taken over in the 1970s and subsequently moved to Westbrooke House in Alton\’s High Street.
The firm\’s name was changed in 1991 to Wettone Matthews and was based at Westbrooke House until 2010 when the Company moved into its current office at Market House in Lenten Street – which leads on from Market Street – where it all started 50 years ago!
The current directors are delighted to be able to retain the name from the Company’s original directors, Tim Wettone and Barbara Matthews, and intend to continue with the same ethos that has been evident to many clients over the preceding years – that of a one to one personal but professional service and tailored to individual clients\’ needs.

Friendly: we believe that talking to your accountant should be a pain-free experience. We pride ourselves on getting to know our clients so that we can advise them from a position of privileged knowledge. Having acted for many business clients for decades and for many personal clients for generations, we feel we can justly claim to have fulfilled that aim.
Local: We have our roots in the social and business communities of Alton, Farnham, Basingstoke and the surrounding areas across Hampshire and Surrey. We have interests and memberships in common with many of our clients. We understand and share your ambitions and concerns.
Proactive: because we work to understand our clients\’ every concern, we keep those issues in mind as legislation, the economy and the marketplace evolve, proactively advising them on changes that they could make that would capitalise on such developments.
Proportionate: we are large enough to have a pool of experts who can cover every aspect of accountancy, but we are small enough to know all of our clients well and to care about their issues. You will always speak to one of our directors about your accounts, but some of the work will be performed by junior staff whose more modest hourly rate will keep our fees competitive.
Reassuring: at the end of the day, we want you to sleep well! We see it as our job to make your financial assets work for you and become a source of confidence, rather than a reason to worry. If we can deliver the financial advice and information that gives you peace of mind, then we have done our job.
