New Deadline for Voluntary National Insurance Contributions

Men born after the 5th April 1951 and women born after the 5th April 1953 will now have until the 5th April 2025 to fill any gaps in National Insurance payments from 2006 onwards with voluntary contributions, the government announced on the 12th June.

This gives people more time to consider whether the voluntary contributions will boost their State Pension entitlements, or not, as the case may be. The extension also allows people more time to spread the payments out. All payments will be accepted at the rates fixed in 2022/2023.

This benefits, among others, the employed but low-earning, unemployed but not claiming benefits, those living or working abroad, and the self-employed who did not make contributions due to their small profits.
